Q3: What is the ruling on condolence for the deceased, and what is the evidence for condolence on the day the deceased dies, whether by slaughtering cattle or sacrificing livestock, near or far, which people attend? We ask for a detailed explanation of condolence?
A3: Condolence is a recommended practice (sunnah), and it has been narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he encouraged it by what
was narrated from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sunan Ibn Majah 1601Da’if (Darussalam) It was narrated by Ibn Majah , and condolence is not to be by slaughtering cows or sheep or the like, or by sacrificing camels, but rather by good words that help in patience and acceptance of the divine decree (qadar), and in settling the soul to the decree of Allah, hoping for reward and fearing punishment. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
