The First Adhan on Friday

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 1647 )
Q1: Is the first adhan on Friday a religious innovation?
A1:It is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Hold fast to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs after me. Adhere to it and grip it with your teeth.عليكم بسنتي وسنة الخلفاء الراشدين المهديين من بعدي، تمسكوا بها وعضوا عليها بالنواجذ
the hadith. The call on Friday used to begin when the imam sat on the pulpit during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)and Abu Bakrand 'Umar(may Allah be pleased with them both), so when the caliphate of'Uthmancame and the people increased;'Uthmanordered the first adhan on Friday -now-, and it is not an innovation because of the previous command to follow the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs. The basis for this is what was narrated byal-Bukhariand al-Nasa'iand al-Tirmidhiand Ibn Majahand Abu Dawudand the wording is his: fromIbn Shihab: informed meal-Sa'ib ibn Yazid :
During the time of the Prophet (ﷺ) and Abu Bakr and 'Umar the call to the Friday prayer was first made at the time when the imam was seated on the pulpit (for giving the sermon). When the time of 'Uthman came, and the people became abundant, 'Uthman ordered to make a third call to the Friday prayer. It was made on al-Zaura' (a house in Medina). The rule of action continued to the same effect.
Sunan Abi Dawud 1087Sahih (Al-Albani)

And al-Qastallani noted in his commentary on al-Bukhari regarding this hadith that the call which 'Uthman added is at the entry of the time, and he called it the third, considering it an addition to the adhan before the imam and the iqamah for prayer, and he referred to the iqamah as an adhan by way of predominance, due to the commonality of notification in both, and this adhan was when the Muslims increased, so he added it by way of his independent legal reasoning, and the agreement of the other Companions with him by silence and lack of objection; so it became a consensus by silence. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
