The sending of blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the second tashahhud is obligatory

The eighth question of Fatwa No. ( 5176 )
Q8: Is the sending of blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the second tashahhud obligatory, and what is the ruling on one who leaves it out, whether forgetfully or intentionally? Is his prayer invalid?
A8: The sending of blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the second tashahhud is obligatory according to the correct opinion of the scholars; because the command to do so came from him (peace and blessings be upon him). One who leaves it out forgetfully should perform the prostration for forgetfulness if he is an imam or praying alone, and one who leaves it out intentionally has an invalid prayer. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
