The second question of Fatwa No. ( 6837 )
Q2: If a worshiper catches up with the congregation and the imam is reciting the Qur'an after al-Fatihah in a prayer where the recitation is loud, such as Maghrib, for example, does he recite al-Fatihah or not? This is based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-A'raf 7:204] And if he catches up with the imam while he is standing and recites only "Alhamdulillah Rabb al-Alamin" (Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds), and then the imam says Allahu Akbar, does he bow as well, or does he complete the recitation?
J:2 Reciting al-Fatihah in the prayer is obligatory for the imam, the one praying alone, and the one praying behind the imam, whether in a quiet or loud prayer; due to the generality of the evidence for reciting al-Fatihah in the prayer. If a person joins the congregation and says the takbir with the imam, he is required to recite it. If the imam bows before he finishes it, he must follow him, and that rak'ah suffices for him. Likewise, if a person catches the imam in the bowing position completely, that rak'ah in which he caught the imam bowing suffices for him, and this is the correct opinion.
of the scholars' statements, and al-Fatihah is dropped from him because he was unable to recite it, due to the hadith of Abu Bakrah which is famous and recorded in (Sahih al-Bukhari) . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
