The tenth question of Fatwa No. ( 8691 ):


Q10: What is the manner of dealing with a Christian neighbor in residence or in school? And should I visit him and congratulate him on their festivals?
A10: It is permissible to deal with a Christian neighbor by being kind to him, helping him in permissible matters, being dutiful to him, and visiting him to call him to Allah the Exalted; perhaps Allah will guide him to Islam. As for attending their festivals and congratulating them on them, that is not permissible; because of the saying of Allah, the Exalted:
And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَى وَلاَ تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:2]
; for attending their festivals and congratulating them is a type of forbidden loyalty, and so is taking them as friends. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
