Swaying During Dhikr

Machine translationRead the Arabic original

The second question of Fatwa No. ( 3232 ):

Q2: Is the dhikr that some people perform in Egypt and its rural areas part of the religion? For example, they stand and sway to the right and left while reciting the Name of Allah?
A2: We do not know any basis for this practice in the religion of Allah. Rather, it is a religious innovation and a contradiction of the Shari'ah of Allah, and it must be refuted by those who perform it, especially if they are able to do so. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718a

It is agreed upon as authentic from the hadith of A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and there are other authentic hadiths in this chapter with the same meaning. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
