Swaying When Reciting the Qur'an

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 19588 )
Q: Some people sway from side to side, or forward and backward, when they recite the Qur'an. What is the ruling on this action? Please advise us, and may Allah reward you.
A : This swaying during the recitation of the Qur'an is one of the customs that must be abandoned; because it is inconsistent with the proper conduct toward the Book of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and because what is required during the recitation and listening to the Qur'an is to listen attentively and refrain from movements and fidgeting, so that the reciter and the listener may devote themselves to reflecting on the Noble Qur'an and being humble before Allah (Mighty and Majestic). The scholars have mentioned that this is a custom of the Jews when reciting their book, and we have been forbidden from imitating them. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
