Supplication after the obligatory prayer for the imam and the people gathered

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q5: Is it permissible to make supplication after the obligatory prayers for the imam and all the people gathered?
A5: Acts of worship are based on divine legislation, so it is not permissible to say that this act of worship is prescribed in terms of its origin, its number, its forms, or its place, except with a piece of evidence from the Shari'ah that indicates this. We do not know of any Sunnah in this matter from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), neither from his words, nor from his actions, nor from his approval. All good lies in following his guidance (peace and blessings be upon him). His guidance (peace and blessings be upon him) in this chapter is established by the evidence indicating what he used to do (peace and blessings be upon him) after the taslim. His successors and his Companions after him, and those after them who followed them with excellence, proceeded in accordance with this. Whoever innovates something contrary to the guidance of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), it is rejected from him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.
Sahih Muslim 1718b
, so the imam who makes supplication after the taslim, and the ma'mum (those praying behind him) say "Ameen" to his supplication, and everyone raises his hand, is required to provide the evidence that establishes his action, otherwise it is rejected from him. Once this is known, we will explain a brief account of his guidance (peace and blessings be upon him). Among that is that when he said the taslim, he would seek forgiveness from Allah three times and say:
"O Allah, You are As-Salam, and from you is As-Salam. You are blessed, O One of Magnificence and Generosity."
Sunan Abi Dawud 1512Sahih (Al-Albani)
. It was said to al-Awza'i: How is the seeking of forgiveness? He said: He says: "I seek forgiveness from Allah, I seek forgiveness from Allah." This is the narration of Muslim , al-Tirmidhi, and al-Nasa'i , except that al-Nasa'i said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when he turned away from his prayer... and mentioned the hadith. And in a narration of Abu Dawud:
When Allah's Messenger wanted to turn from his Salat, he would seek forgiveness from Allah three times, then say: (Allahumma Antas-Salamأن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كان إذا أراد أن ينصرف من صلاته استغفر الله ثلاث مرات، ثم قال: اللهم أنت السلام
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 300Sahih (Darussalam)
, and in a narration of Abu Dawud , and al-Nasa'i , from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her):
the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would say: "Allahumma anta as-salam wa minka as-salam tabarakta ya dhal-jalali wal-ikram (O Allah, You are the source of eace (or the One free from all faults) and from You comes peace, blessed are You, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor)."
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1338Sahih (Darussalam)
, and al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated from Warad , the scribe, the freed slave of al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah , who said: al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah dictated to me in a letter to Mu'awiyah:
The Prophet of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to say at the end of every prayer, "There is no god but Allah alone with no partner. His is the Kingdom and His is the praise and He has power over everything. O Allah, none can withhold what You give nor can anyone give what You withhold. Nor will the wealth of someone with wealth help him against Youأن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يقول في دبر كل صلاة: لا إله إلاَّ الله وحده لا شريك له، له الملك وله الحمد، وهو على كل شيء قدير، اللهم لا مانع لما أعطيت، ولا معطي لما منعت، ولا ينفع ذا الجد منك الجد
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 460
.
And Muslim narrated in his Sahih, from Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both),
That he used to say after every prayer when he said the taslim: There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is over all things competent. There is no power and no strength except by Allah. There is no god but Allah, and we worship none but Him. His is the blessing, His is the favor, and His is the good praise. There is no god but Allah, sincere to Him in our religion, even if the disbelievers dislike it. And he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to glorify Allah with these phrases after every prayer.
, and in a narration of Muslim as well, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever glorifies Allah after every prayer thirty-three times, praises Allah thirty-three times, and says Allahu Akbar thirty-three times, that makes ninety-nine, then completes the hundred by saying: There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is over all things competent, his sins will be forgiven, even if they were like the foam of the sea.
. And whoever wants to look into more supplications, let him refer to the book of supplications in the comprehensive books, such as: [Jami' al-Usul], [Majma' al-Zawa'id], and [al-Matalib al-'Aliyah bi Zawa'id al-Masanid al-Thamaniyyah], and others. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
