Treating Oneself with Forbidden Things and Going to Sorcerers and Fortune-Tellers

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 6291 ):
Q: First: In some areas of our country, some individuals treat their patients with the flesh of wild beasts, birds, and livestock, whether the flesh is lawful or forbidden. What is the ruling on this practice, whether it has been tried several times or not? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you. Second: What is the ruling on going to sorcerers, fortune-tellers, and astrologers .
A: First: Everything that is a predator with fangs, such as the lion, the wolf, and the tiger among wild beasts, and everything that has a talon with which it preys, such as the kite and the falcon among birds, and such as the wild donkey and the mule among livestock — eating it is forbidden, because
it is established from Abu Thalhah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade eating the flesh of any wild beast that has fangsنهى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عن أكل كل ذي ناب من السباع
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 11:282
It was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim, and from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
every fanged beast of prey, and every bird with a talonنهى عن أكل كل ذي ناب من السباع، وكل ذي مخلب من الطير
Sunan Abi Dawud 3806Da'if (Al-Albani)
, and these hadiths specify the generality of the verse:
Say, "I do not find within that which was revealed to me [anything] forbidden to one who would eat it unless it be a dead animal or blood spilled out or the flesh of swine - for indeed, it is impure - or it be [that slaughtered in] disobedience, dedicated to other than Allahقُلْ لاَ أَجِدُ فِي مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ مُحَرَّمًا عَلَى طَاعِمٍ يَطْعَمُهُ إِلا أَنْ يَكُونَ مَيْتَةً أَوْ دَمًا مَسْفُوحًا أَوْ لَحْمَ خِنْـزِيرٍ فَإِنَّهُ رِجْسٌ أَوْ فِسْقًا أُهِلَّ لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ بِهِ
[Al-An'am 6:145]
Or it is said: The hadiths came to forbid what is mentioned in them, in addition to what Allah had previously forbidden in
the Meccan verses, and since these are forbidden, it is not permissible to treat oneself with them or with any other forbidden things. As for what is lawful to eat, it is permissible to treat oneself with it. Second: It is not permissible to go to sorcerers, nor to fortune-tellers and astrologers, nor to believe them; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
He who visits a diviner ('Arraf) and asks him about anything, his prayers extending to forty nights will not be accepted.من أتى عرافًا فسأله عن شيء لم تقبل له صلاة أربعين ليلة
Sahih Muslim 2230
Narrated by Muslim in his Sahih, and the diviner encompasses the fortune-teller, the astrologer, and the sorcerer, and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
or who goes to a fortuneteller and believes what he says, he has disbelieved in that which was revealed to Muhammad.من أتى كاهنًا فصدّقه بما يقول فقد كفر بما أنزل على محمد
Sunan Ibn Majah 639Hasan (Darussalam)
Narrated by the people of the Sunan. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
