What is the method of forbidding evil to one’s parents if they commit something wrong?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: ... One of the parents wants you to handle this matter?

The Shaykh: This has its answer. When you are specific about the parents, we say
And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.
[Al-Isra 17:23]
. You can scold me in my face and shout in front of me, but in front of the parents, never. And you should emulate the method of the Intimate Friend of Allah, Ibrahim (peace and blessings be upon him): “O my father, O my father, O my father, there is no blame on you for this.” After that, if you do not actually respond to him after you have been gentle with him in advising him with words, the problem is over. That is, no one can force you to disobey. So do not pay attention to people, and do not pay attention even to the parents in what they do that contradicts the Shari'ah, but pay attention to them by guiding and directing them.
