The Shaykh : The hadith that follows it, which is the thirteenth hadith, and it is hasan (good), he said:
And from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), he said:
In this hadith, there is a reference to one of the conditions we mentioned in the previous lesson in explaining the virtue of the poor. Perhaps you remember that we said that Islam does not encourage poverty, but rather the purpose of these hadiths is to provide consolation for Muslims who may be afflicted with poverty. In that case, they should be patient. So, the purpose of praising the poor and honoring them is not to encourage every Muslim to become poor. Rather, since this world is a place of trial and testing, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) mentions in these hadiths the virtues of poverty and the poor. Why? So that if one of us is afflicted with some of this poverty, he will be patient. Therefore, the reward for poverty and the poor is for those among them who are patient. In this hadith, there is a reference to what we mentioned, where he said:Sahih Ibn Hibban 64:330 So, poverty is a trial, as we also said in the previous lesson. Therefore, a person should not seek it out. But if he is afflicted with it, he should be patient. And so we said in the previous lesson that the Messenger (peace be upon him) sought refuge from poverty. His seeking refuge from poverty is an indication that it is a trial with which a believer is afflicted. Therefore, a Muslim should not seek out a trial for himself, but rather that is what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade. And if the hadith that came in Sahih Muslim from the hadith of Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) is: "That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a man who was making supplication in his du'a, and he had become a body without a spirit, sick, making supplication and saying: O Allah, what You have afflicted me with, or what You have made my punishment in the Hereafter, then afflict me with it, or hasten it in this world. So he said to him (peace and blessings be upon him): Do you have the capacity for the punishment of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) on the Day of Resurrection? Why did you not say: Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire?", just as it is not permissible for a Muslim to ask Allah to afflict him in his body, so it is not permissible for him to ask to be afflicted in his wealth, meaning: to make him poor. Rather, he should seek refuge from poverty and its evil. But if he is afflicted with a disease in his body, he should be patient, and this does not conflict with taking medicine, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: , likewise, if he is afflicted in his wealth, if he is afflicted by having his provision restricted, he should be patient, perhaps he will attain these virtues that came in these hadiths. So, poverty is a trial, and patience with it has an abundant reward from Allah on the Day of Resurrection, and in these hadiths is an explanation of some of that.
And from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), he said:
They will gather on the Day of Resurrection and it will be said: Where are the poor of this Ummah? It will be said to them: What did you do? They will say: Our Lord, You tried us and we were patient, and You gave the authority over wealth to others than us. So Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) will say: You have spoken the truth. He said: So they will enter Paradise before the people, and the severity of the Reckoning will remain for those with wealth and authority. They said: Where will the believers be at that time? He said: Thrones of light will be placed for them, and clouds will shade them. That day will be shorter for the believers than an hour of the day.
