Is it permissible to make du'a' (supplication) by saying: (In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing in the earth or in the sky can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing) in one's supplication?

The questioner : I am consistent in praising Allah morning and evening with this supplication, but many times, I mean, not right when I wake up, truly, I remember, for example... I remember, for example, while I am praying Fajr, so even out of human affection, I supplicate with it in prostration. Is this permissible?

The Shaykh : How did you do it?

The questioner : I mean, by mentioning
Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma'a ismihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa Huwas-Sami'ul-'Alim بسم الله الذي لا يضر مع اسمه شيء في الأرض ولا في السماء وهو السميع العليم
Sunan Ibn Majah 3869
three times. I am truly accustomed to waking up from sleep, and the first thing I do upon waking is to make this supplication. Likewise, when I enter the mosque, and when I enter Maghrib, sometimes I do not remember immediately when the adhan is called, and when I stand for prayer, I remember that I spoke, so I want to be the first to seek good, so I make this supplication in prostration. Is this permissible?

The Shaykh : Permissible, permissible.

The questioner : What if the Maghrib prayer is missed and he makes this supplication?

The Shaykh : It is permissible.

The Shaykh : In both considerations, it is the evening protection at any time in the evening. But this protection is a supplication with prostration, as we all know. So increase in supplication in it, for it is likely that it will be answered for you. Here there are two virtues: a general virtue that is suitable for evening or morning, and a specific virtue, which is prostration.

The questioner : If he commits to it?

The Shaykh : If he commits to it, it is not known, and the commitment is not established.

The questioner : I mean, sometimes.

The Shaykh : Sometimes, yes.
