The questioner : In fact, there are some people who, after burying the deceased, remain at his grave for a period, seeking forgiveness from Allah, remembering Allah, and also speaking to the deceased, relying on the story of 'Amr ibn al-'As, who asked his funeral procession to remain at his grave for a period to slaughter a camel. We also want to know the ruling on this practice?

The Shaykh : As for standing at the grave, seeking forgiveness for the deceased, and asking for steadfastness for the deceased, this was part of the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

The questioner : O Allah, send blessings and peace upon him.

The Shaykh : That when he finished burying him, he would stand over him and say
Seek forgiveness for your brother, and beg steadfastness for him, for he will be questioned now. استغفروا لأخيكم واسألوا له التثبيت فإنه الأن يسأل
Sunan Abi Dawud 3221Sahih (Al-Albani)
As for what is mentioned regarding 'Amr ibn al-'As (may Allah be pleased with him), this is one of the matters of independent legal reasoning (ijtihad) where the guidance of others is considered contrary to it.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Because Abu Bakr, 'Umar, 'Uthman, and 'Ali did not do this. So he (may Allah be pleased with him) said to 'Ali, addressing those who spoke to him about staying with him: "I find comfort in your presence until I meet the messengers of my Lord" meaning the angels who question the deceased.

The questioner : Yes, yes.

The Shaykh : So this is merely an exercise of independent legal reasoning (ijtihad) on his part (may Allah be pleased with him); it may be agreed upon or it may not, but it is not in the form that this questioner asked about. Yes.

The questioner : Yes.
Also, he asks about the reading of the Qur'an after 'Amr's time, and also says.
