Who wakes up and finds himself in a state of major ritual impurity; is he to perform dry ablution and catch the Fajr prayer in congregation?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: I, my master, regarding... one who heard the adhan being called while he was establishing the Fajr prayer, and he was in a state of major ritual impurity... is it permissible for him to perform dry ablution and catch up with the prayer, or is it not permissible?

The Shaykh: He must perform the ghusl for major ritual impurity. The ghusl for major ritual impurity, of course, we must note that it is not like the ghusl for Jumu'ah; because the ghusl for Jumu'ah is a ghusl for cleanliness, whereas the ghusl for major ritual impurity is a ghusl of worship. It is as he (peace be upon him) said when a questioner came to him and asked him about the ghusl; he said:
As for me, I pour three handfuls of water on my head. أما أنا فأفيضُ على رأسي ثلاث حثيات ، فإذا أنا طاهر
Sunan Ibn Majah 575Sahih (Darussalam)
. So the ghusl for major ritual impurity does not require a long time. If he performs the ghusl and intends to pray in the mosque, then goes to the mosque; if he finds them in prayer, that is good and excellent. If he finds them praying, their rewards are written for him without diminishment.

The questioner: What if he fears the time will pass, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : How?

The questioner: What if he wakes up and delays in the ghusl while he is heating the water and completing his ghusl, until the time passes and the sun rises?

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner: It is also upon him...

The Shaykh: The matter here is as the Greatest Truthful One, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), said when he led the people in the Fajr prayer during his caliphate and lengthened the recitation. They said to him: "O Abu Bakr, you have lengthened the recitation until the sun was about to rise." He said: "If it rises, it will not find us heedless." So what you are talking about is in obedience to Allah; therefore, as long as he is in obedience to Allah, if it rises, it does not harm him.

The questioner: As for these matters that some people say, if a person is a guest...

The Shaykh: He touched this... meaning this is like if - no blame - he is uncomfortable and wants to get up to relieve himself, give us a way so we can relieve his need, but he is shy. Okay; what will you do? Like what everyone does! Does it require modesty or not?! Especially modesty that wants to waste an obligatory duty from the obligatory duties of Allah, which is the ghusl; so it is not permissible. This is a delusion among the delusions common among people.
