The Connection Between Jinn and Humans

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: Is there a real connection between humans and jinn, and is it true that a jinn possesses a person so that the jinn speaks through his mouth, or is it not?

Answer: Yes, it is established that jinn can cause humans to have seizures and afflict them, and Allah the Exalted

He says regarding usurers:
Those who consume interest cannot stand [on the Day of Resurrection] except as one stands who is being beaten by Satan into insanityالَّذِينَ يَأْكُلُونَ الرِّبَا لَا يَقُومُونَ إِلَّا كَمَا يَقُومُ الَّذِي يَتَخَبَّطُهُ الشَّيْطَانُ مِنَ الْمَسِّ
[al-Baqarah: 275] .

Meaning: They will not rise from their graves at the Resurrection except like the rising of a person who has a seizure caused by jinn who have mixed with him. This is because the usurer, may Allah protect us from that, has a swollen belly, so when he tries to stand up, he falls down, and every time he tries to stand up, he falls, which is a disgrace for him among creation. He is like the person who has a seizure caused by jinn and Shayatins. This is evidence that jinn afflict humans, and this is something established and known through experience and perception. Jinn mix with humans and confuse them and afflict them, either because the human has harmed them and they want to take revenge on him, or because they are playing with him, or for other purposes they desire.

And the conclusion: The affliction of humans by jinn with seizures is an established fact, indicated by the Qur'an, and indicated by the reality of experience and observation, and no one denies this except an ignorant person.

Question: What is the best means of treatment for this?

Answer: The best means of treatment for this is to recite the Noble Qur'an over the afflicted person and to perform ruqyah (healing by Qur'anic recitation) with the transmitted supplications, and what is in him will be removed by the permission of Allah the Exalted.

Question: What is the ruling on what some sorcerers or false prophets do in this time, such as prescribing certain supplications and certain drinks, claiming thereby that they expel this jinn from the human body?

Answer: The original ruling in this is that it is forbidden (haram); it is not permissible to treat with such things except with Qur'anic supplications, Prophetic supplications, and the like.

Question: Some types of treatment may lead to beating the afflicted patient, so what is your opinion, O honorable Shaykh?

Answer: The issue of beating may be valid. If it is confirmed that this person has possession by jinn, and it is established that he has a seizure, and that what possesses him is from the jinn, then there is no harm in beating, for the beating does not fall on the human and he does not feel it, but rather it falls on the jinn. Therefore, when he regains consciousness and it leaves him, there is no effect of the beating on his body; he does not feel it. However, not everyone who is afflicted with some illness has a seizure; rather, it is necessary to be certain of that, and Allah knows best.
