How to Get Rid of Whispers
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! A young man used to commit many sins, but he committed himself to the religion and went into da'wah (calling others to Islam). Then the devils began to whisper to him that Allah is not real, that the Messenger is not real, and that the Companions are just fairy tales. Is he punished for these thoughts?
These are whispers—may Allah reward you—which Satan casts into the hearts of the people of faith. This happened to the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), and they came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to complain,And they said: saying, "One of us finds in his heart what he would wish to fall from the sky rather than speak of, or what he would wish to be a clod of burning charcoal—Meaning: a burning coal—rather than speak of,So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: and that is clear faith." That is: this is pure faith; this is a sign of pure faith. Why? Because when Satan sees a person turning toward the truth, he diverts him from it by every means he can. But if the person is turning away, Satan is spared the trouble and does not come to him, and whispers do not enter him; because his heart is dark.
And getting rid of that is as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you finds that, let him seek refuge in Allah and let him stop." (He seeks refuge in Allah) meaning: he says, "I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan." (And let him stop) meaning: he turns away from it and does not think about it at all.
