The questioner : I observe that the worshippers in the Haram, when the first adhan is called, stand up and pray two rak'ahs, and their argument is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Between every two calls (to prayer) there is a Salat بين كل أذانين صلاة
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 185Sahih (Darussalam)
What do you say about this?

The Shaykh : We say that this is not correct; the action is not correct, and the evidence cited is not correct. As for the action, if the first adhan is called before the sun reaches its zenith, then the prayer of these people falls within the prohibited time, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade prayer when the sun is rising until it reaches its zenith. And if the first adhan is not called until after the zenith, then there is no report from the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) that they used to stand up and pray when the mu'adhdhin called at the arrival of the imam, even though the imam's arrival is between two adhans. One might say that they do not stand up to pray because the khatib will stand up and deliver the khutbah, and listening to the khutbah is more important. It is said: The khatib does not stand up immediately when the adhan is completed; there is an interval between them in which a person can catch up a rak'ah or less than a rak'ah. In any case, we see that this prayer is not in its proper place and that it is not appropriate. Some of the contemporary scholars have written a treatise on this matter and clarified that there is no basis for this prayer. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you and bless you. The questioner says.
