Is it obligatory to take back a wife divorced during menstruation?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Now, if a man comes to us seeking a ruling and says that he divorced his wife while she was menstruating, what do we tell him?
We tell him: It is obligatory for you to take her back. It is obligatory for you to take her back, because when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed by 'Umar that 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar had divorced his wife while she was menstruating, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry and was displeased with this action, and he said:
Order him (your son) to take her back and keep her till she is clean and then to wait till she gets her next period and becomes clean again, whereupon, if he wishes to keep her, he can do so, and if he wishes to divorce her he can divorce her before having sexual intercourse with her; and that is the prescribed period which Allah has fixed for the women meant to be divorced. مره فليراجعها ثم ليتركها حتى تطهر ثم تحيض ثم تطهر ثم إن شاء أمسك بعد وإن شاء طلق قبل أن يمس فتلك العدة التي أمر الله أن تطلق لها النساء
Sahih al-Bukhari 5251
So, if a man comes to us seeking a ruling and he has already divorced her while she was menstruating, what do we say? He must take her back, and it is obligatory. Then he must wait until she becomes pure, then she menstruates, then she becomes pure again. Then, if he wishes, he may divorce her before touching her, or if he wishes, he may keep her.
