The Book of Marriage, Breastfeeding, Divorce, Mutual Oath-Swearing, and Manumission-08b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Yahya ibn Yahya al-Tamimi narrated to us, saying: I read to Malik ibn Anas, from Nafi', from Ibn Umar
That he divorced his wife while she was menstruating during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So 'Umar ibn al-Khattab asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about that, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Tell him to take her back, then let him leave her until she becomes pure, then she menstruates, then she becomes pure. Then, if he wishes, he may keep her, and if he wishes, he may divorce her before touching her. That is the waiting period that Allah Mighty and Majestic commanded for women to be divorced."
.

The Shaykh : This hadith has multiple wordings, and its essence is that Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) divorced his wife while she was menstruating. This reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) through his father, who asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about it, and he said:
Tell him to take her back مره فليراجعها
to the end of it.
