The Ruling on Women Visiting Graves
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
His Eminence the Shaykh: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned: (May Allah curse the women who visit graves), did he mean by that: women who visit frequently, or is it permissible to visit at long intervals?
The hadith is narrated in two ways: The first view: (May Allah curse the women who visit graves).
And the second aspect: (May Allah curse the women who visit graves), and both have a correct meaning.
As for "women who visit graves," this is considered with respect to each woman individually,And "women who visit" means: the gender, and it is known that if we look at the actions of the gender, it becomes frequent.
And the correct opinion, without doubt, is: That a woman who visits graves is cursed by this hadith; because the hadith is authentic, many scholars have cited it as evidence, and the Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah spoke about it in the *Fatawa* with good words that a student of knowledge should review,And what came in the hadith of A'ishah: (that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) taught her what to say.
) So the meaning is: if the woman goes out not with the intention of visiting, but if she passes by the cemetery and stops and prays for them with the transmitted supplication, then she is not considered a visitor; because the visitor is the one who walks from his home or his location to the one being visited.
And the matter remains to be considered regarding women visiting the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family): does it fall under this or not? Some of the scholars said: It falls under it; because that is called visiting by custom.
And some of them said: It does not fall under it; because the one standing outside the chamber has a building between him and the grave, three walls,So it cannot be said: He visited it, and therefore if you look at the walled cemetery,Then it is not said: You have visited the cemetery; because there is a wall between you and it.
So the standing of the woman at the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is not called visiting the grave,For this reason, the jurists (may Allah have mercy on them) said: Visiting the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is a recommended practice (sunnah) even for women, but the precaution is that the woman should not visit the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and it is sufficient for her to greet him even if she is at the farthest point of the world; because the greeting of a person to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) reaches him wherever he is.
