What is the authenticity of the hadith: “Between the two adhanat there is a prayer for whoever wishes”?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The authenticity of the hadith:
Between the two adhanat there is a prayer for whoever wishes بين الأذانين صلاة لِمَن شاء
?

The Shaykh : It is a valid hadith in al-Bukhari.

The questioner : Is it permissible to pray between the two adhanat: the adhan before Jumu'ah and the adhan when the imam ascends?

The Shaykh : Are there two adhanat on Friday? No, there are not two adhanat except in the end times. In the time of the Messenger of Allah, there was only one adhan, which is when the imam ascends to the minbar. So this hadith does not apply.

The questioner : Well, Shaykh, some people, Shaykh, some people argue with the two adhanat, saying that this is the sunnah of the rightly guided caliphs after me.

The Shaykh : No, that is not correct.

The questioner : ... Uthman.

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you. This is an issue that is detailed in my book or thesis, *Al-Ajwibat al-Nafi'ah 'an As'ilat Lajnat Masjid al-Jami'ah* (Beneficial Answers to the Questions of the University Mosque Committee), but in brief: first, the Uthmanic adhan did not have the interval between it and the Prophetic adhan that exists today.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : The interval is the time in which some people are able to pray four rak'ahs, not two. This did not exist in the time of Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). That is one point. The other is that Uthman ibn 'Affan placed the Uthmanic adhan in a place far from the mosque called al-Zurra', so that those in the market would hear that the time for prayer had arrived. There is no room for making this a sunnah or legislating it today, because the loudspeaker suffices for that. Therefore, those who argue with the Uthmanic adhan are mistaken in three ways. Two points were mentioned, and I will summarize them. The first point is that Uthman's adhan was not inside the mosque, but outside the mosque and in a place far from it, for the purpose of announcement. The second point is that the announcement today is done by the loudspeaker. The third point is that this is not the sunnah of the rightly guided caliphs. Here, those people err regarding the sunnah of the rightly guided caliphs mentioned in the authentic hadith. The meaning of:
And hold fast to my sunnah وعليكم بسُنَّتي
,
You must therefore follow my sunna and that of the rightly guided Caliphs عليكم بسُنَّتي وسنة الخلفاء الراشدين
Mishkat al-Masabih 165Sahīh (Zubair `Aliza'i)
; is not: and the sunnah of one of the rightly guided caliphs, but rather the sunnah of the entirety of the rightly guided caliphs.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And the difference between the two meanings is great. In other words, if we imagine that Uthman's adhan was an error—and it was not an error—then arguing with this hadith is not correct, because it does not represent the sunnah of the rightly guided caliphs, but rather represents his own sunnah. If a student of knowledge wants to understand this hadith correctly, let him remember a text similar to it in expression. The best that comes to our mind is the saying of the Exalted:
And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers
[An-Nisa 4:115]
. It does not mean following the path of one believer, but rather the path of the believers as a whole. Likewise, the sunnah of the rightly guided caliphs means their sunnah as a whole, not the sunnah of an individual among them.
