May Allah reward you! Allah has honored me with the Hajj this year, and praise be to Allah.

The questioner : A questioner says: May Allah reward you! Allah has honored me with the Hajj this year, and praise be to Allah. But I made some mistakes, and Allah knows that it was not in my hands, given that I am a woman. My question, O honorable Shaykh:The Shaykh : We did not go to Mina on the Day of Tarwiyah. And this was due to the fire. But we went directly to 'Arafah. Second: We did not stay overnight in Muzdalifah. But our car stopped for a quarter of an hour to pray and pick up the pebbles, then we drove, but we did not drive to Mina. However, we sat in the car until about three in the morning while we were inside Muzdalifah. Does this count as staying overnight?

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The fact that she did not stay overnight in Mina on the night of the ninth and did not remain there on the day of the eighth, there is no blame on her for that, because remaining in Mina on the last part of the eighth day and the night of the ninth is a recommended practice (sunnah) and not obligatory. So whoever does it is doing good, and whoever does not do it, there is no blame on him and no sin on him. As for the fact that they did not dismount in Muzdalifah except briefly to pray and pick up the pebbles, then they got in the car and remained in it until the second hour, this is also permissible, because the important thing is that a person remains in Muzdalifah, whether in the car or on the ground. She mentioned picking up the pebbles. It has become well-known among many common people that it is obligatory to pick up the pebbles from Muzdalifah, and this is a mistake. The pebbles are picked up from Mina, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) picked them up from Mina when he stood at the Jamarat al-'Aqabah. He ordered Ibn 'Abbas to pick up pebbles for him, so he picked them up from Mina. And he kept saying:
Throw with stones like these, and beware of exaggeration in religion. بأمثال هؤلاء فارموا وإياكم والغلو في الدين
. But many of the Salaf recommended picking up the pebbles from Muzdalifah in order to hasten to stoning the Jamarat al-'Aqabah so that he would not have to dismount from his camel to pick up the pebbles from Mina. They said: He takes them before he departs so that they are ready, because it is better for a person to stone the Jamarat al-'Aqabah on the day of the festival while he is on his camel before he sets up his camp. But this is a matter that is not possible in the present time; it is impossible. If we told people to get in their cars and stop at the Jamarat, this is not possible. Therefore, we say: Picking up the pebbles from Mina is closer to the Sunnah than picking them up from Muzdalifah.
Yes.
