The questioner : We often find letters like this, so what is your opinion of the one who believes in them, writes them, and places them in the curtains of the Ka'bah? It says on the back of the letter: "To the Master, Mighty and Majestic, to Allah the Generous", and inside the letter: "In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate, O Beloved of Allah, we hope to visit your house and be near you, we hope to pray in your noble sanctuary, and I ask you, O Beloved of Allah, to accept this request of ours and bring us near to you, along with my wife and my husband, so that I may be near you and find happiness in praying upon you, O Beloved of Allah. Your obedient servant, 'Alawiyyah bint 'A'ishah".

The Shaykh : This letter is addressed from Khadijah? From 'Alawiyyah 'A'ishah to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) — it appears so.
I say: This letter contains supplication to other than Allah, Mighty and Majestic. Supplication to other than Allah, as we mentioned in the previous lesson, is major shirk (associating partners with Allah) that takes one out of the religion. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself does not possess the power to benefit himself or harm himself, nor does he possess the power to benefit or harm others. Allah the Exalted said:
Say قُلْ
addressing the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
I do not tell you that I have the depositories [containing the provision] of Allah or that I know the unseen, nor do I tell you that I am an angel
[Al-An'am 6:50]
Nor do I say that I am an angel; rather, he (peace and blessings be upon him) is a human being, indeed a servant among the servants of Allah. For this reason, He said afterwards:
I only follow what is revealed to me. إِنْ أَتَّبِعُ إِلاَّ مَا يُوحَى إِلَيّ
[Al-An'am 6:50]
So he (peace and blessings be upon him) follows what is revealed to him. Indeed, describing him (peace and blessings be upon him) as a servant came only in the context of honoring him, in the context of the revelation of the Qur'an, the Night Journey, and the defense of him.
In any case, this letter and what is similar to it is major shirk (associating partners with Allah) that takes one out of the religion. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) does not have the power to remove harm or bring benefit to this woman or to anyone else.
Say, "Indeed, I do not possess for you [the power of] harm or right direction." قُلْ إِنِّي لاَ أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّا وَلاَ رَشَدًا
[Al-Jinn 72:21]
.
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered his close relatives and went around calling them by their names, saying:
I cannot avail you anything before Allah لا أُغْنِي عَنْكُمْ مِنْ اللهِ شَيْئًا
Sunan an-Nasa'i 3648Sahih (Darussalam)
.
So this woman should repent to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and direct her supplication to Allah, the Exalted. It is He who removes evil, and it is He who answers the distressed one when he calls upon Him.
And in her words there is a point we would like to discuss with you, which is her statement regarding the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
