A man asks about the saying of Allah the Exalted: “Indeed, Allah knows those who hinder you from [participating in] jihad and those who say to their brothers, ‘Come to us,’ but they do not come to the battle except a little.”

The questioner : This is a listener to the program, Abdullah Hajj, asking about the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Already Allah knows the hinderers among you and those [hypocrites] who say to their brothers, "Come to us," and do not go to battle, except for a few, قد يعلم الله المعوقين منكم والقائلين لإخوانهم هلم إلينا ولا يأتون البأس إلا قليلا
[Al-Ahzab 33:18]
?

The Shaykh : Yes. In this noble verse, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) informs that He is aware of those who hinder these people from jihad, who discourage people and spread fear regarding the enemies. They say to people, for example, “There is no need for jihad,” or “The enemy is large,” or similar things that discourage people from jihad. And these people, while discouraging people from jihad, invite people to be like them in laziness and negligence. They say, “Come to us,” but they themselves do not come to war and face the enemy except a little. The “little” here either means nonexistent or means very little.
In any case, in this verse there is a warning for whoever discourages people from jihad in the path of Allah and hinders them from it. And this warning is derived from His saying:
Already Allah knows the hinderers among you قد يعلم الله المعوقين منكم
[Al-Ahzab 33:18]
. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
