Giving Zakah to Poor Disabled Persons

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 11360 )
Q: We inform Your Eminence that the Center for the Care of Disabled Children in Riyadh is the first project established by the Charitable Society for the Care of Disabled Children in Riyadh . It is a private charitable society with an independent legal personality that relies on its financial income from charitable donations and gifts received from families, companies, and institutions. This society treats, cares for, and rehabilitates disabled children from birth until the age of 12, providing them with food, drink, shelter, and necessary clothing during their stay at the center affiliated with the society, and this is
free of charge and without compensation, knowing that the vast majority of these children come from poor, low-income families who are eligible for charity. Therefore, our question is summarized as follows: Is it permissible for the society to benefit from zakah funds and spend them on the treatment, care, and rehabilitation of this category of poor, disabled children who need care and attention? We hope you will kindly review and provide a ruling, and may Allah reward you with the best reward.

A: There is no harm in benefiting from zakah funds in matters concerning poor disabled persons. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
