The questioner : The listening sister, N. A. N. from al-Muzaymiyah, has a question. She says: When I hear the adhan and the mu'adhdhin finishes, I get up to perform the prayer. After that, I hear another adhan, and then I hear the iqamah and the prayer in a neighboring mosque. I have heard that it is not permissible for a woman, or that it is not permissible for women, to pray before the men pray. Is my prayer permissible?

The Shaykh : Yes. As for what this woman heard, namely that it is not valid for women to pray until the men have prayed, what she heard is not correct. That is, it is permissible for women to pray even if the men have not prayed, and there is no blame on them for that. However, a woman hastening to pray as soon as she hears the mu'adhdhin is something in which a person should be cautious and not hasten. This is because some mu'adhdhins may call the adhan before the time, either out of ignorance, or because their clock misled them, or for other reasons. Therefore, a person should wait a little after the adhan until he is certain, or it is most likely in his opinion, that he is correct if he prays. This is because, as the questioner said, we see that some mu'adhdhins call the adhan before the time.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : On this occasion, I would like to advise my brother mu'adhdhins regarding this action, which involves wasting trust and misleading Muslims. I warn them not to hasten in the adhan. If a mu'adhdhin calls the adhan before the time enters by even one minute, his adhan is not valid. In fact, if he says even one takbir before the adhan of the time, his adhan is not valid. This is because one of the conditions for the validity of the adhan is that it be in the time. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made the adhan prescribed when the prayer is present, meaning when its time has entered.
However, if he calls the adhan after the time has entered, even by two, three, or five minutes, his adhan is valid.

The questioner : Very well.

The Shaykh : For this reason, we say to our brother mu'adhdhins: Be cautious for yourselves and for your Muslim brothers, and do not hasten in the adhan before the time. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah forgive us and you and the Muslims, O honorable Shaykh. And may you be rewarded with good for what you have clarified for us and for the honorable listening brothers.
Our honorable brothers, he answered your questions.
