The questioner : The listener: This is a message received from listener E E K from Baghdad, Iraq. He says in this message: Can diseases be treated with ruqyah, O honorable Shaykh? And are there any hadiths reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this? And is writing Ayat al-Kursi, Surat Ya-Sin, or al-Fatihah on a piece of paper and then placing it in water and drinking that water part of the Sunnah? We ask for guidance. May you be rewarded?

The Shaykh : Yes. Diseases can be cured by reciting the Qur'an, and this is a reality attested to by the Sunnah and confirmed by experience. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a group on a military expedition, and they stayed with a people, but the people they stayed with did not host them, so they sat to one side. Then Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) sent a snake to their master, and it bit him. They came to these men and said, "Do you have anyone who can perform ruqyah?" They said, "Yes." So a man stepped forward and recited al-Fatihah over him, and he stood up as if he had been released from a tether. When they reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him, he said to him (peace and blessings be upon him)
How did you know it was Ruqyah? وما يُدريك أنها رقية
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2064Sahih (Darussalam)
And Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said:
And We send down of the Qur'an that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss. وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ القُرءانِ ما هُوَ شِفاءٌ وَرَحمَةٌ لِلمُؤمِنينَ وَلا يَزيدُ الظّالِمينَ إِلّا خَسارًا
[Al-Isra 17:82]
.
As for what the questioner mentioned regarding writing some verses that contain seeking refuge and protection from Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and then placing them in water to be drunk, this has also been reported from the Salaf (may Allah have mercy on them), and it is tried and effective. However, the questioner mentioned Surat Ya-Sin in his question.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : I do not know that Ya-Sin is among the things used for ruqyah, but ruqyah is performed with al-Fatihah, Ayat al-Kursi, the last two verses of Surat al-Baqarah, and
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One, قل هو الله أحد
[Al-Ikhlas 112:1]
Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak قل أعوذ برب الفلق
[Al-Falaq 113:1]
Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, قل أعوذ برب الناس
[An-Nas 114:1]
. Yes.

The questioner : Thank you, O honorable Shaykh, and may Allah magnify your reward.
