The questioner : May Allah reward you. He saysThe questioner : Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.
The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and Allah's mercy and blessings.
The questioner : There is a person who has pain in his foot, and another person asks him to write something from the Qur'an on the place of the pain, claiming that this is a form of ruqyah (healing by Qur'anic recitation), and he has written upon it Ayat al-Kursi. Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you. Is this practice correct?
The Shaykh : What we see is that this should not be done, especially if the writing is on the sole of the foot, because there is in that a desecration of the Qur'an that is apparent and known. It is sufficient instead of writing to blow upon the place of the pain and recite Surat al-Fatihah. If Surat al-Fatihah is recited over the sick person or the one in pain, it is the most beneficial of all medicines. The evidence for this is what is established in the authentic hadith. Accordingly, reciting over the sick person or the pain with al-Fatihah is among the causes of healing and well-being. Just as the hadith is authentic regarding it, it is also proven by experience; there is nothing in the Qur'an greater than it as a means of healing. So instead of writing Ayat al-Kursi in this place, where writing it there is considered a desecration, let him recite al-Fatihah over him. Yes.
