The Shaykh : Yes, the narrated supplication includes:
Peace be upon you, abode of a people of faith, and we, if Allah wills, are to follow you. May Allah have mercy on those of us who have gone before and those who come after. We ask Allah for well-being for us and for you. O Allah, do not deprive us of their reward, and do not test us after them, and forgive us and them. السلام عليكم دار قوم مؤمنين، وإنا إن شاء الله بكم لاحقون، يرحم الله المستقدمين منا ومنكم والمستأخرين، نسأل الله لنا ولكم العافية. اللهم لا تحرمنا أجرهم، ولا تفتنا بعدهم، واغفر لنا ولهم
.
The purpose of visiting graves is to take a lesson, to be admonished, and to make supplication for the people in the graves. It is not intended to seek blessing from their soil, to call upon them, or to believe that supplication near them is more likely to be answered, or anything similar to what many ignorant people think. If a person does not know the narrated supplication for visiting graves, he can, or it is possible for him to, supplicate with whatever he wishes.
