Discussion of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “Indeed, you and what you worship besides Him are fuel for the Fire.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Because, on the contrary, they forbid them from worshipping other than Allah. Or, they may be humans like Pharaoh and ... who imposed themselves upon their peoples and made them gods besides Allah the Mighty and Majestic, and compelled them to obey and worship them. The idols and stones in which they carved the righteous ... However, the beginning of the verse says: “What you worship besides Allah,” meaning, O you polytheists, and what you worship besides Allah, namely idols and statues that you carved, even if they were statues of the righteous ... following what is other than Allah, like Pharaoh, the rabbis, and the monks, and so on
Indeed, you [disbelievers] and what you worship other than Allah are the firewood of Hell إنكم وما تعبدون من دون الله حصب جهنّم
[Al-Anbya 21:98]
... all of them are entering the Fire. As for the Messenger (peace be upon him), even though ... the messengers and the righteous whom He warned ... from other than Allah, yet they disobeyed them and worshipped them other than Allah, these are not obviously the intended target of this noble verse. And in such a case, the saying of Allah the Exalted was revealed:
Indeed, those who have said, "Our Lord is Allah " and then remained on a right course - the angels will descend upon them إن الذين قالوا ربنا الله ثم استقاموا تتنزل عليهم الملائكة
[Fussilat 41:30]
... to the end of it
(101) Indeed, those for whom the best [reward] has preceded from Us - they are from it far removed. (102) They will not hear its sound, while they are, in that which their souls desire, abiding eternally. إن الذين سبقت لهم منا الحسنى أولئك عنها مبعدون لا يسمعون حسيسها وهم فيما اشتهت أنفسهم خالدون
[Al-Anbya 21:101-102]
... those whom they worshipped besides Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, without their own consent.

The questioner : And “what you worship” in it ... .

The Shaykh : ... .
