The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : I am now seventy years old and I did not abandon fasting, but I did not pray. Now I have repented three years ago. Is my earlier fasting considered fasting or charity? And do I owe anything?

The Shaykh : You owe nothing, and you will be rewarded for your earlier fasting because you became a Muslim, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
You accepted Islam with all the previous virtues that you practised. أسلمت علي ما أسلفت من الخير
Sahih Muslim 123a
The good deeds a person does while in a state of disbelief benefit him if he becomes a Muslim. Accordingly, if Allah wills, the reward for your fasting is recorded for you, and you do not have to make it up.
