There is my husband's brother in the house, and he is married and has children, and we eat together. Is that permissible, even though we wear the jilbab, but we do not wear socks because of the difficulty involved?

The questioner : The questioner says: There is my husband's brother in the house, and he is also married and has children, and we eat together. My question is: Is that permissible, even though, praise be to Allah, we wear the shirb or the jilbab, as we call it, but we do not wear the shirb because of the difficulty involved, since the kitchen is there and we need to enter it frequently, and my husband's brothers come to visit their family? Is it permissible for us to do this, which is to uncover our faces, knowing that my husband is the youngest of the brothers and will continue to live with his family permanently? What is our guidance in light of this question?

The Shaykh : I direct this questioner that it is not permissible for her to uncover her face to her husband's brothers, because her husband's brothers and whoever is in the street are on the same level; they are all not among her mahrams. It is not permissible for her to uncover her face to her husband's brothers at all, and it is not permissible for them to sit together at one table, because that necessitates uncovering the hands and uncovering the faces. However, it is permissible for them to be in one room, with the women on one side and the men on the other side. As for them all being on one carpet, that is not permissible. These customs that exist among some people are bad customs that contradict the guidance of the righteous Salaf. We must follow the example of those who preceded us in faith, as Allah Blessed and Exalted said:
And the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhajireen and the Ansar and those who followed them with good conduct - Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him, and He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment.
[At-Tawbah 9:100]
.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
