Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I came from work and found that my wife had done something wrong, and I asked her about it, but she responded to me in an inappropriate manner, which provoked me, so I hit her, and she was pregnant with a fetus four months old. Bleeding occurred, and I took her to the doctor, but the fetus had already been lost. Is there a sin on me for this, and what is the expiation? May you be rewarded.

The Shaykh : If the loss of the fetus was due to your hitting her, then you are obligated to pay its blood money, which is a slave or a slave woman, valued at five camels. You are also obligated to pay the expiation because you killed a soul. However, if the fetus was less than four months old, you are not obligated to pay an expiation because the loss of this fetus was not considered killing. I advise you and our listening brothers to maintain calmness and to control yourself when angry. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The strong-man is not one who wrestles well but the strong man is one who controls himself when he is in a fit of rage. ليس الشديد بالصرعة، وإنما الشديد الذي يملك نفسه عند الغضب
Sahih Muslim 2609a
So control yourself when angry, and that will be better for you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a man who asked him to advise him:
O Messenger of Allah, advise me. He said: Do not get angry. He said: Advise me. He said: Do not get angry. He said: Advise me. He said: Do not get angry. He repeated this several times, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Do not get angry. يا رسول الله أوصني، قال: لا تغضب، قال: أوصني، قال: لا تغضب، قال: أوصني، قال: لا تغضب. فردد مراراً فقال: له النبي صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم: لا تغضب
Because anger leads to many harms; a man may divorce his wives, free his slaves, or break his vessels. So if anger overtakes you, seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan. Then, if you are standing, sit down, and if you are sitting, lie down, for that will cool your anger. Otherwise, perform ablution.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
