The questioner : Perhaps you remember the verse in Surat Hud when he called upon his Lord:
And Noah called to his Lord and said, "My Lord, indeed my son is of my family; and indeed, Your promise is true; and You are the most just of judges!" و نادى نوح ربّه قال ربّ إنّ ابني من أهلي و وعدك الحقّ و أنت أحكم الحاكمين
[Hud 11:45]
So the Lord of the worlds responded to him and said:
indeed he is not of your family; indeed, he is [one whose] work was other than righteous إنّه ليس من أهلك إنّه عمل غير صالح
[Hud 11:46]

The Shaykh : Yes, exactly.

The questioner : One of them, meaning, it was as if he paused and said: How was the address and dialogue from Allah (Mighty and Majestic)? I mean, how did He respond to Noah? Did He respond face-to-face or through revelation?

The Shaykh : It may have been this way, and it may have been that way. What does it matter to the Muslim?

The questioner : And for that reason, it is said that Moses spoke to Him directly. How did He respond to him, but from this point?

The Shaykh : Moses spoke to Him directly because He sent him to the Mount to have a private conversation to select him through this conversation over all the other prophets. As for a mere conversation like what took place between the Lord of the worlds and Noah (peace be upon him), as mentioned in the surah, this occurs between the Lord of the worlds and the messengers constantly.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : As for whether it was by way of revelation, which is akin to inspiration where no voice is heard, or whether it was like the speech that Moses (peace be upon him) heard, this requires clarification. And therefore, we said it may have been this way and it may have been that way.

The questioner : So, both possibilities are valid?

The Shaykh : Yes, exactly.

The questioner : And Allah knows best.

The Shaykh : Yes, exactly.
