The questioner : This questioner is a woman who says she fell ill and then stayed in the hospital for several days, and upon her discharge she took with her approximately forty glass cups and other items, and she was not aware of the ruling regarding this action. She moved from her area to another area. What is obligatory for her? Does she have to return them, or should she give their value in charity? May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment. I hope that there is no sin upon this woman for what she took of the glass cups, since she thought that taking them was permissible. However, it is obligatory for her to return them to the hospital, whether she moved from the city where she was or remained in it, because this is the right of a human being, and the right of a human being must be delivered to him or his permission must be sought. Accordingly, it is obligatory for her to return these cups that she took to the hospital from which she took them. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh.
