Is it established that the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to take from their hair?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : If you please, Shaykh, this is a personal matter for me. Did it come in one of the six books, and I know not, that one of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to cut their hair or take from their hair? Is this chain of narration or this report authentic, or did she cut her hair outside of the state of consecration?

The Shaykh : I read it in Sahih Muslim. Did you read it in Sahih Muslim?

The questioner : You know better than I do.

The Shaykh
That the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to take from their hair until it was like a tuft. أن نساء النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كن يأخذن من شعورهن حتى تكون كالوفرة
This is the text of the hadith in Sahih Muslim.

The questioner : So do we say it is permissible?

The Shaykh : With one condition: that the woman who cuts her hair does not intend to imitate the disbelieving women or the open sinners among the Muslim women, and I do not say the believing women. Did you understand me?

The questioner : Yes, I was hesitating about this and was in doubt about my situation, because I have my wife and my sisters, and they want to act upon this, and I was always hesitating and preventing them until I could stop or find the chain of this hadith.

The Shaykh : But I advise you not to allow them absolute permission, but rather with the restriction and condition I mentioned to you just now.

The questioner : All right, we entrust you to Allah and we bid you peace, Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Ah, bid me peace.

The questioner : Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
