Is there a connection between the noble verse (Indeed, We guided him to the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful) and the other verse (And We guided him to the two paths) in the matter of divine decree?

The questioner : May Allah reward you, O Shaykh. Does the noble verse
Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful. إِنّا هَدَيناهُ السَّبيلَ إِمّا شاكِرًا وَإِمّا كَفورًا
[Al-Insan 76:3]
and the other verse
And We guided him to the two paths وَهَدَيناهُ النَّجدَينِ
have a connection to what was mentioned previously, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Yes. Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:
(1) Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned? (2) Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing. (3) Indeed, We guided him to the way
[Al-Insan 76:1-3]
meaning that He made the way clear to him and clarified it for him, whether he was grateful or ungrateful. So Allah made the way clear, and then people divided into the grateful and the ungrateful. Then Allah clarified in this surah the recompense of the disbelievers and the recompense of the grateful ones. As for His saying:
And We guided him to the two paths وَهَدَيناهُ النَّجدَينِ
it was said that its meaning is that He made clear to him the two paths of good and evil, so it would be like this verse or close to it.
It was also said that the meaning of
And We guided him to the two paths وَهَدَيناهُ النَّجدَينِ
is that We guided him to the breasts of his mother. Because the infant, from the moment he comes out of his mother’s womb and is put to the breast, knows that it is a breast and sucks it. Who told him this? Did his mother tell him? If she had told him, he would not have understood. But this is from Allah, Mighty and Majestic. He, Glorified and Exalted is He, guided this infant by his fitrah (innate natural disposition) to know that these two organs in the mother contain his nourishment, so he sucks them.
And as long as the verse is suitable for both interpretations, it applies to both. Because we love to tell our listening brothers that if a verse can be understood in two meanings, with no evidence preferring one over the other and no contradiction between them, then it is obligatory to apply it to both. Because the One who spoke it, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, knows what meanings it contains. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you and bless you, O honorable Shaykh.
