A speech by Ali Khushan on marriage.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Ali Khushan: I return to the occasion we are in, and we clarify that Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) legislated for us marriage and wedlock, and He said, the Exalted:
And if you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphan girls, then marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four. But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one or those your right hand possesses. That is more suitable that you may not incline [to injustice].
[An-Nisa 4:3]
So Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) legislated for us... The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) clarified this by saying:
Young man, those of you who can support a wife should marry, for it keeps you from looking at strange women and preserves you from immorality; but those who cannot should devote themselves to fasting, for it is a means of suppressing sexual desire.
Mishkat al-Masabih 3080
So a person, whether male or female, cannot do without this marriage, and this is from the Sunnah of Allah and from the fitrah (innate natural disposition) of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). Therefore He said:
And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.
[Ar-Rum 30:21]
So it is not possible for there to be tranquility for a man or a woman without marriage and without wedlock, even if a man owned the palaces of the world, or if a woman owned the world and what is in it, with its pearls, jewels, gold, and silk, it is not possible for her to know the taste of stability and tranquility except through a husband, and a righteous husband. Likewise, a man does not know the taste of stability and tranquility except through being joined with a wife, and likewise a righteous wife. Therefore our Lord legislated for us and our Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) clarified for us these rulings that pertain to this marriage. And I do not want to lengthen the speech on this aspect, but I want to speak on a matter that many people may hesitate to speak about, especially since I am the father of the groom now, and it is His saying (Blessed and Exalted is He):
marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four
[An-Nisa 4:3]
And this is the issue of plural marriage. If the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) says:
Young man, those of you who can support a wife should marry, for it keeps you from looking at strange women and preserves you from immorality
Mishkat al-Masabih 3080
Then with one wife, it is more modest for the gaze and more chaste for the private parts. If he cannot afford one, then he should fast, for it is a restraint for him. Good, and likewise this remains in its place and in its generality regarding the second, third, or fourth wife that Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) legislated, with the condition, with the condition of justice that Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) made obligatory upon us:
But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one or those your right hand possesses. That is more suitable that you may not incline [to injustice].
[An-Nisa 4:3]
Meaning that you do not act unjustly. And I want to speak about this now because people are doubting Islam from this aspect. Know that the whole world now, its East and its West, the whole world is a center of corruption and dissolution, and there is no human being on the face of the earth who guards his private parts except that he is a righteous believer, a believer in the Book of Allah, a believer in the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), righteous, fearing his Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He). He alone is the one who chastes himself if he is not married, and he is the one who is content with only one woman. As for others, do not believe that they will be content with one woman. And as some priests in the United States did, one of them mentioned that he was speaking and launching a campaign against Islam for permitting plural marriage. So a young man, who seemed to be intelligent and astute, said to him, "I want to ask you." He said, "Ask." He said, "What is the percentage of Muslims who marry four, or two?" What would he say? A number. He said, "Ten percent." They said, "And three, five percent, and four, two percent," meaning he set a number. He said, "I want to ask another thing." He said, "What?" He said, "How many women or girls pass through the life of the American young man?" He said, "At least ten." He said, "How? If you attack a nation where ten percent of men know a second woman, and you leave a nation where every man in it knows ten women?" So he gathered his papers and left. The point of this is that the societies, the societies of the East and the West, all live in corruption. Purity is only in the Muslim society. Purity and chastity are only in the Muslim society, and in the Muslim society that holds fast to the Book of Allah and holds fast to the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). And another matter: Islam did not make plural marriage obligatory, but it made lowering the gaze obligatory and made guarding the private parts obligatory. So whoever does not want to have multiple wives, Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) did not force him to do so, but He made it obligatory upon him to guard his gaze and to guard his private parts. And likewise, Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) did not make it obligatory upon a woman to marry a husband who has other wives, but He made it obligatory upon her to guard her private parts and lower her gaze! So there is no problem in the matter. This is what we want to address from this aspect. The point is that we know that Islamic legislation is what contains perfection, and opposing the Shari'ah is what causes corruption in societies, and dissolution and deviation. The West has permitted sodomy and they take pride in it, and we are afraid of this, and we become excusing and placing obstacles in this matter, and we are between excess and deficiency in this topic. And the matter is not, as we said, open to the door, meaning the door is opened wide and every person enters, whether he is good or not. No, our Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He) restricted that with justice, and the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say:
O Allah, this is my portion of what I control, and do not hold me accountable for what You control and I do not control.
Meaning that in the inclination of the heart. I say this because people are now talking a lot, and perhaps they fall into backbiting and fall into many things regarding those who have multiple wives, so they speak about this matter, whether true or false. So I point to this matter, and we now leave the space for our Shaykh, may Allah reward him with good, to hear from him what he will gift us and what will please us, if Allah wills, and what will benefit us in our religion and our worldly life...
