The questioner : I have heard that there are righteous jinn and jinn who are Shayatins. Do they appear to humans? And how...

The Shaykh : Do they?

The questioner : Do they appear.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : To humans? And how do we avoid their appearance?

The Shaykh : There is no doubt that the jinn are like the humans: among them are the righteous, among them are the Muslims, among them are the disbelievers, and among them are the awliya (close friends of Allah) who believed in Allah and were mindful of Him. Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) said in Surat al-Jinn regarding the jinn that they said:
And among us are the righteous, and among us are [others] not so
[Al-Jinn 72:11]
And they also said:
(14) And among us are Muslims [in submission to Allah], and among us are the unjust. And whoever has become Muslim - those have sought out the right course. (15) But as for the unjust, they will be, for Hell, firewood.'
[Al-Jinn 72:14-15]
And among them, meaning among the jinn, are those who love the righteous among the humans, and they may address them and benefit from them through advice and teaching. And among them, meaning among the jinn, are open sinners and disbelievers who love the open sinners and disbelievers and hate the believers and the people of uprightness. And among the jinn are those who love aggression against the humans and harming them. They are, in their essence, a hidden realm that does not appear to the humans, but sometimes they appear occasionally and the humans see them. They may take on forms that are harmful and annoying in order to terrify the humans. However, if a person fortifies himself with the supplications established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Allah will suffice him from their evil. Among these is reciting the Verse of the Throne, which is His saying, the Exalted:
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
[Al-Baqarah 2:255]
If this great verse is recited in the night, a protector from Allah will remain over the reciter, and no Shaytan will approach him until he becomes morning. But it is necessary that the reciter believes in it, believes in its effect, and believes that Allah the Exalted protects him with it from every Shaytan. As for one who recites it while heedless, or one who recites it as an experiment without being certain of its effect, he will not benefit from it. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you. In the question of the listener Hana Muhammad, she says.
