What is the ruling on a man working in a large establishment that includes some prohibited matters? Is he considered a partner in the sin?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In your case, he works in a place, meaning a large supermarket, meaning it has all things, from clothes to accessories and everything else. In addition to that, this place contains prohibited items, such as the sale of intoxicants and pork. He is not a partner in the capital; he is merely an employee who receives a salary. Does the sin of partnership in this place attach to him, and is the money forbidden or not?

The Shaykh : Of course, he is a partner because he is assisting or cooperating in sin with the owners of this place. Therefore, his earnings are forbidden and not lawful. And our Lord says:
but do not cooperate in sin and aggression و لا تعاونوا على الإثم و العدوان
[Al-Ma'idah 5:2]
This is the answer.

The questioner : Meaning, it is forbidden.

The Shaykh : Yes, that is correct.

The questioner : What if the man’s family is in need of this money?

The Shaykh : This is not said. The statement is that they are in need of this money. Every person is in need of money to live, but the important thing is that he falls into the danger of death. He wants to save himself from death by eating forbidden food. That is what is permissible. But as for one who is in need of money, the ways of earning lawful money—our Lord, Mighty and Majestic, has not closed them off to His believing servants. And Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says in the Noble Qur’an:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect. و من يتق الله يجعل له مخرجا و يرزقه من حيث لا يحتسب
[At-Talaq 65:2-3]
Is the answer clear?

The questioner : It is clear, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Now, is there any other need?

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : Peace be upon you
