The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : I have a friend residing in the city of Unaizah, and his wife will be coming from outside the Kingdom on the twenty-eighth of Ramadan, and he intends to perform 'Umrah with her together. However, he will leave the city of Unaizah one day before her arrival to meet her. He is asking now: Does he intend to perform 'Umrah and enter the state of ihram from here, or does he travel to the city of Jeddah and, after meeting her, enter the state of ihram with her to perform 'Umrah? He mentions that if he enters the state of ihram from his departure point here, one day before her arrival, he must be in the state of ihram for a full day before his wife arrives. I ask for your guidance. May Allah guide you.

The Shaykh : We say to this brother: It is obligatory for him to enter the state of ihram from the miqat, because when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) designated the miqats, he said:
these Mawaqit are for those living at those very places, and besides them for those who come through those places هن لهن ولمن أتى عليهن من غير أهلهن
Sahih al-Bukhari 1529
Then, if you wish, go to Makkah and perform tawaf, shorten your hair or shave it, and then go out to Jeddah to meet your wife. Meet her and go up to Makkah with her, even if you are not in the state of ihram. Or, you may remain in Jeddah while you are in the state of ihram, and when the wife arrives, accompany her, having entered the state of ihram from the miqat, and perform 'Umrah with your wife. These are two ways. As for the third way, which is to remain in Jeddah not in the state of ihram, and when the wife arrives, enter the state of ihram with her, this is a way that is not permissible, because one who intends to perform 'Umrah cannot pass the miqat without entering the state of ihram.
