Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And that those of understanding may remember."

The Shaykh : What remains of the noble verse is [Sad 38:29] This is the second wisdom in the revelation of the Qur'an: that those of understanding may remember. The meaning of "remember" is to take a lesson. Allah the Exalted said: [Al-A'la 87:9] meaning, admonish the people so that they may benefit from the admonition. And His saying means those who possess intellect, for the "albab" (hearts/intellects) is the intellect. Those who do not possess intellect do not remember through the Qur'an, nor do they benefit from it, nor do they find guidance in it. Rather, whenever a surah is revealed, it increases them in filth upon their filth, may Allah protect us from that. Allah the Exalted said: [At-Tawbah 9:124-125] This is the wisdom in the revelation of the Qur'an: that you reflect upon its meaning until you understand it, and then take a lesson from what is in it. In this way, you will have benefited from the Noble Qur'an. As for mere recitation, there is good in it and there is blessing, and each letter is ten good deeds, but that is not the ultimate goal of the revelation of the Qur'an.
