A discussion on the virtue of the Noble Qur'an and the meaning of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "A Book We have revealed to you, full of blessing, so that they may reflect upon its verses and that people of understanding may be reminded."

The Shaykh : And we seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our souls and from the badness of our deeds. Whoever Allah guides, no one can mislead, and whoever He misleads, no one can guide. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger, His intimate friend and His trustee over His revelation. Allah the Exalted sent him with guidance and the religion of truth, so he conveyed the message, fulfilled the trust, advised the nation, and struggled in the cause of Allah with true struggle. May the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, upon his family and his companions, and upon those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.
I ask Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, to make me and you among those who follow Him outwardly and inwardly, to gather us in His group, to give us to drink from His pool, to include us in His intercession, and to gather us with Him in the Gardens of Delight with the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous. Indeed, He is capable of all things.
O my brothers, on this night, the Friday night of the twenty-third of the month of Rabi' al-Thani, 1417, we are pleased to meet our brothers here in the Noble Prophet's Mosque. We ask Allah the Exalted to make this meeting beneficial for us and for you. As is our custom in such blessed meetings here and in the Sacred Mosque, we first speak about what our imam recited in the Maghrib prayer. What was it?
The student: ... .
The Shaykh : Good. And that is because interpreting the Qur'an and knowing its knowledge is a matter of importance. Indeed, Allah the Exalted says in His Book:[Sad 38:29] So Allah described the Qur'an as full of blessing, and there is no doubt that it is so. It is full of blessing in its recitation, full of blessing in its effect, and full of blessing in its impact. The effects of this Noble Qur'an, when the Muslim nation was holding fast to it, were great and far-reaching. By it, the Muslim nation possessed the east and west of the earth, and it toppled the thrones of the kings of the Persians and the Romans, until most of the regions of the earth became subject to this Islamic religion. For this reason, the Qur'an is full of blessing. Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Furqan 25:52] By it, meaning by the Qur'an, a great struggle. So it is full of blessing in every type of blessing and from every angle. But what is the wisdom of its revelation? Is the wisdom that we read it as an act of worship to Allah the Exalted by its recitation and hoping for the reward, or is the matter beyond that?
Answer: The matter is beyond that. There is no doubt that its recitation and hoping for its reward, and hoping for the reward thereby, is undoubtedly an intended and important matter. And when a person reads the Qur'an, how much does he get for every letter?
The student: One hundred good deeds.
The Shaykh : No, ten good deeds. No. Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2910Hasan (Darussalam) But the intended purpose is a matter beyond that, which is "so that they may reflect upon its verses." The meaning of reflection (tadabbur) is contemplation and pondering over the meaning until we reach it and know it. Then after that, the result and the fruit come: "People of understanding" means those who possess intellects. So whoever is more intelligent is more devoted to this Qur'an and holds fast to it more strongly. Thus, the benefit of the revelation of this Qur'an is two things. The student, bring them.
The student: ... .
The Shaykh : These two things, or one thing? Rest. Who knows? Please.
The student:.
The Shaykh : Good, rest. What is the meaning of reflecting on the verses? Answer, everyone. Please, stand up.
The student: Contemplation.
The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: Contemplation.
The Shaykh : Contemplation and pondering over the meaning. Good. The second benefit. The benefit. Please.
The student: ... .
The Shaykh : "So that people of understanding may be reminded." What is the meaning of being reminded?
The student: ... .
The Shaykh : Taking a lesson from the Qur'an, believing in its news, complying with its command, and avoiding its prohibition. May Allah bless you.
Pay attention, my brother. If one of the wisdoms of the revelation of the Qur'an is that people should reflect on the Book of Allah, this means that it is obligatory upon us to understand the meanings of the speech of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. And if you were to contemplate, you would find that most Muslims today do not know of the Qur'an except its script, except its script and its wording only, and they do not know the meaning except a little. For this reason, if you asked anyone, even if he were a student of knowledge, what is meant by such and such, you would find him doubtful and hesitant.
