Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : There is a wife and a husband, and the wife asked him to allow her to give charity from their shared funds, but the husband said: “I do not prevent you, but I do not forgive you.” What should the wife do? Please advise us on this.

The Shaykh : Yes. In this situation, the wife may divide the shared funds with her husband by saying, “I will take one hundred riyals, for example, and you take one hundred riyals. The one hundred will be specifically yours, and this one hundred will be specifically mine. I want to give charity.” He has no right to prevent her from giving charity because she is free to dispose of her own money.
As for his saying, “I do not prevent you, but I do not forgive you,” this is a contradiction. If he does not prevent her, this implies that he must forgive her. If he does not forgive her, this implies that he must prevent her. He should fear Allah regarding this wife who loves good and not prevent her from giving charity. If he wishes, he can have the charity come from her specific funds and deduct from her the amount she gave from the shared funds. If he wishes, he can allow her to give charity from both their funds, and they will be partners in the reward.

The questioner : May Allah bless you. This is a message received from a listener of the program who says: “O honorable Shaykh, the distinguished one.”
