A man married to a pious woman who wears the Shari'ah hijab, but his mother rejects her; is he obligated to obey his mother? (What is the ruling on the hijab and what is its form for it to be Shari'ah-compliant?)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The Shari'ah-prescribed hijab, first of all, covers what? It covers the face. If your brother understood the Shari'ah-prescribed hijab as some people understand it—that it is covering the entire body, even the hair, except for the face—then that is not correct.
The Shari'ah-prescribed hijab, first of all, includes covering the face.
We are left with a problem: the man says his mother rejects this woman, meaning, as you say, he should divorce her. But he desires her because she is committed to her religion. He desires the woman because she is committed. So, does he fulfill his own desire or his mother's desire?
The answer: He fulfills his own desire, even if he disobeys his mother. Even if she curses him, it does not concern him. As long as the woman is committed to her religion, there is no negligence in her religion, and she wears the Shari'ah-prescribed hijab, but his mother dislikes her, then the mother's dislike is of no account. Because, unfortunately, some mothers, when they see that her husband loves his wife, treat the wife as if she were a rival, as if she were a second woman, and they dislike her. And Satan says to her, "Your son prefers his wife over you."
So she fills with anger and says, "It is me or her."
If she says, "It is me or her," what does he say? Say it. Yes, is it her or his mother? His mother is unjust in this case; there is no doubt that she is unjust. Even if she says, "I will call upon Allah to curse you," and she calls upon Allah, Allah will not respond to her, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The supplication of any of you is answered as long as he does not make supplication for something which is a wrong action or cutting off ties of kinship يستجاب لأحدكم ما لم يدع بإثم أو قطيعة رحم
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 655
. And this is a sin; there is no doubt that it is a sin. The son is not unjust. The son loves his wife because she is committed. And if the mother does not desire it, she does not desire it. For this reason, a man came to Abu 'Abdullah, Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, and said, "O Abu 'Abdullah, my father ordered me to divorce my wife. My father ordered me to divorce my wife, and I desire her." He said: "Do not divorce her, do not divorce her". Then the man said, "O Abu 'Abdullah, did not the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say to Ibn 'Umar:
Divorce your wife طلق امرأتك
because 'Umar ordered him to divorce her? That is, 'Umar said to his son 'Abdullah, "Divorce your wife," so he divorced her. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar to divorce his wife because his father ordered him to. He said: "Yes". Imam Ahmad said: "But is your father 'Umar?". A sound answer. 'Umar, without doubt, only wanted his son to divorce her because he saw that her remaining with him was a harm to him. There is no doubt. Otherwise, 'Umar is not the one who separates a man from his wife. But this man's father, perhaps, perhaps he disliked his wife because his son, what? Loves her. So Satan says to him, "Your son prefers his wife over you." So he becomes upset and says, "Divorce her." And the result is that if your father or your mother orders you to divorce your wife, and she is committed to her religion, and you desire her, do not obey them, because this is a harm to you. Perhaps you will not find a woman at this level, and there is no harm to them in her remaining with you. Yes.
