Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "Indeed, you will die, and they will die. Then, on the Day of Resurrection, you will dispute before your Lord."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : O Allah, send prayers and peace upon the Messenger of Allah.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets and the Imam of the righteous, and upon his family and his Companions, and those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.
As for what follows: We listened to the recitation of our imam in the Fajr prayer of this day, and among what we heard was the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, addressing His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family)
(30) Indeed, you are to die, and indeed, they are to die. (31) Then indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, before your Lord, will dispute. إنك ميت وإنهم ميتون. ثم إنكم يوم القيامة عند ربكم تختصمون
[Az-Zumar 39:30-31]
The address in the phrase "Indeed, you" is to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family); there is no doubt about this. And His saying:
Dead. ميت
means "you will die," because He is addressing him while he is alive.
And they وإنهم
means "these who deny you."
will die ميتون
means "they will die."
Then indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, before your Lord, will dispute. ثم إنكم يوم القيامة عند ربكم تختصمون
[Az-Zumar 39:31]
It is well known that the one who prevails in this dispute is the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), as Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said in Surat al-Nisa:
and never will Allah give the disbelievers over the believers a way [to overcome them]. ولن يجعل الله للكافرين على المؤمنين سبيلا
[An-Nisa 4:141]
So the one who disputes and prevails on the Day of Resurrection in the dispute before Allah, Mighty and Majestic, are the people of faith and the people of righteousness. As for the people of disbelief and the people of corruption, they are undoubtedly the ones who are disputed against and defeated.
