Among the characteristics of the hypocrites: frequent swearing by oaths.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And the wonder is that these hypocrites say this statement and swear by it and testify to it, but they swear to a lie while they know it. Listen to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
When the hypocrites come to you, [O Muhammad], they say, "We testify that you are the Messenger of Allah."
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1]
A confirmed testimony by: "in" and the lam
We testify that you are the Messenger of Allah
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1]
So Allah the Exalted said:
And Allah knows that you are His Messenger, and Allah testifies that the hypocrites are liars.
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1]
They are liars in their statement that they testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. And here we ask: what is the benefit of inserting His saying:
And Allah knows that you are His Messenger
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1]
before invalidating their statement in His saying:
and Allah testifies that the hypocrites are liars.
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1]
? Do you understand the question?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : I say: what is the benefit of inserting His saying:
And Allah knows that you are His Messenger
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1]
between their saying:
We testify that you are the Messenger of Allah
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1]
and Allah's refutation of them in His saying:
and Allah testifies that the hypocrites are liars.
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1]
?
The student: ...
and Allah testifies that the hypocrites are liars.
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1]
After their testimony, it may be understood that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) maintains their testimony that the Messenger is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

The Shaykh : Good, that is fine.
The student: But He followed it after He made it clear that Allah knows that the Messenger is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

The Shaykh : Well done, that is fine. If the context of the verse were:
they say, "We testify that you are the Messenger of Allah."
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1]
and Allah testifies that the hypocrites are liars.
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1]
For this reason, Allah began by affirming his messengership before coming to invalidate their statement, so that this danger does not occur.
And why do they swear and testify that he is the Messenger of Allah? He said:
They took their [false] oaths as a cover
[Al-Mujadila 58:16]
So this is their weapon before people: oaths. For this reason, if you see a person frequenting oaths in affirming what he says, suspect him, not of hypocrisy, but of lying. If every time he speaks he stands up and swears, it means he is not confident in himself, and he does not see that people trust him except through oaths, so suspect him.
And a person should not swear except for a very important matter or if he is asked to swear. As for swearing in all his reports, that is an error.
