I have a sister and my father is her guardian, and he will not marry her off except to a government employee or to a man who does not have a wife. If I bring him a righteous young man who has a wife and lie to him saying he is single, is this permissible?

The questioner : I have a sister and my father is her guardian, and he will not marry her off except to a government employee or to a man who does not have a wife. So, if I bring him a righteous young man who has a wife and lie to him saying he is single, is lying permissible in such a situation?
The Shaykh : I say to the questioner, and upon you be peace and the mercy and blessings of Allah, and may Allah love you for the love you have for us in Him. And I say to him: Your father has erred in that he does not marry his daughter off except to one who has wealth, or does not marry his daughter off to one who has a wife. For this is not the criterion for the ruling or the marriage; rather, the whole criterion is religion and character, as that came in the hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):.
And it is not permissible for your father to prevent his daughter from marrying a suitable suitor if she is pleased with him. If he does so, his guardianship is dropped, and you may take charge of her marriage contract if someone comes to her whom you are pleased with in his religion and character and she is pleased with him. As for lying to him when a suitable suitor who has a wife proposes to her, and saying to him that he has no wife, this is not permissible. Because your father will find out soon or later, and problems will arise between you and him, and perhaps problems will arise between him and the husband that will disturb the tranquility and create enmity between you and him. So, you should tell him the truth, advise him, and guide him to the fact that it is obligatory for him to marry her off if she is pleased with this suitable suitor who proposed to her.

If there comes to you one of whose religion and character you are pleased, then marry her to him. If you do not do so, there will be a fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) and great corruption, or he said: widespread.
