The hadith of Mu'adh: he used to pray with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then return to lead his people in prayer. Does this conflict with the prohibition against repeating a prayer twice in one day?

The questioner : Shaykh, regarding the hadith of Mu'adh that he used to pray with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and then go lead his people in prayer, how do you reconcile this with the prohibition against repeating a prayer in the same day?

The Shaykh : There is no prohibition against repeating a prayer in the same day. I say there is no prohibition.

The questioner : Is there no prohibition against repeating a prayer in the same day?

The Shaykh : Never.

The questioner : May Allah reward you. We thought there was a hadith that one should not pray twice in a day, or something to that effect.

The Shaykh : No, no, this is a repetition. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the two men he found who had not prayed Fajr:
when you pray in your camp then you come to a Masjid with a congregation, then pray with them إذا صليتما في رحالكما ثم أتيتما مسجد جماعة فصليا معهم

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
