Explanation of the Book of Friday Prayer and the Two Festivals-09a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Jarir narrated to us, from Mansur, from Abu al-Dhuhya, from Masruq, who said: We were with Abdullah when he said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the people turning away, he said: "O Allah, seven years like the seven years of Yusuf." So a year of famine took them, sweeping away everything, until they ate skins, carrion, and dead animals. One of them would look at the sky and see smoke from hunger. Abu Sufyan came to him and said: "O Muhammad, you command obedience to Allah and maintaining family ties, and your people have perished, so call upon Allah for them." He said: Allah the Exalted said: "So wait, for the day will come when the sky will bring a clear smoke, until it covers the people. It is a painful punishment. We will remove the punishment from those who believe and do righteous deeds. But you, O disbelievers, will return to a place of abode and to a place of entry. You will not be given any provision. Indeed, you are returning on the Day when We will seize with a great seizure. Indeed, We are taking revenge." So the seizure was the Day of Badr, and the smoke, the seizure, and the binding have passed, as well as the sign of the Romans..
